Boots in his new bed

Another article on Libertarians!

Everyone, the Libertarian revolution is here. It may take us 50 years
for to get one in the White House, but it's going to happen. Once all
of the old folk generation dies off (the ones that need Social
Security), it will be our time. People are tired of government taxing
the bejesus out of, they are tired of the government censoring us,
they are tired of the "nation-building", and they are tired of the
Ron Paul won't win, history will remember him for bringing
liberatianism to the mainstream. For that, he should be thanked.

e-books for iPhone on

Well, seeing there is no way to store e-books short of hacking the phone, I am reading books online via Safari. The best site I have found for this is

Currently I'm reading 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea by Jules Verne. I find it's easier to read the books with the iPhone vertical as opposed to widescreen mode. The font is plenty big and I find it very east to read. Obviously this only works if the Internet is available, but within in the wi-fi bubble of my condo this is not a problem.

I'd still like a dedicated e-reader application with e-books I could buy from the iTunes store, but with thousands of books available on, it should keep me entertained for now.

iPhone quits playing while blogging

Well this is annoying. I get my first non honeymoon day off in forever, figure I'll catch up on some blogging, listen to some tunes, and then lo and behold, the music just stops. This is eerily like what would happen to the Treo, with the exception that unlike the Treo, the iPhone doesn't need to be reset. Still, I'm a little irked. I didn't spend 600 dollars to buy a single tasking device, I expect multitasking. That means if I'm on Blogger I should be able to write my posts, listen to music, and if a phone call comes in, I expect to be able to answer it without missing a beat. Let's work on that for the next firmware update, shall we? Update: Turning off the iPhone via the Wake/Sleep button and clearing out Safari's cache and history has consideredly improved the situation.

iTunes lost my Lollapolooza album!

I was just thumbing through my albums with cover flow, and I noticed that my Pearl Jam live at Lollapolooza album was missing. I quickly went to the Mac and confirmed that it wasn't there either. Just disappeared into thin air, apparently. I'll keep a closer eye on the stuff I buy on the iPhone iTunes from now on lest I lose Journey's "Don't Stop Believing".

iPhone Flash?

This is not a complaint, but I would really appreciate it if Apple would put flash support in the next firmware update. It's just that so many people imbed YouTube videos on their sites and I have to go on my Mac to see what they are. Just a suggestion.

The new I-355

I finally had the opportunity to try out the new I-355 extention yesterday as I travalled up to Bartlett from Tinley Park. I was tremendously impressed with the highway as we picked it up off of I-80. It was the smoothest ride I've ever had on a highway. There was open tolling across all three lanes so there was no slowing down. Before I knew it we were past I-55 on to the "old" I-355. Going this way probably cut off a good 20 minutes off the trip. If only this had been done when I was working in Naperville!

Giving thanks

Well, it's Thanksgiving again, that most American of holidays. This year I'm giving thanks that my brother returned home from Iraq safe and sound. He's now back with his family and he's back at work. There is nothing to be more thankful for!

The pier at Structure 32

This was from my Sunday Run.

Kindle: Worst idea ever

An absolutely god-awful piece of electronics was released by Amazon today, the Kindle. It's a $399 electronic reading device, even uglier then the Sony Reader, and certainly more expensive. I could spend hours ripping this kludge, but why? Instead, I will once again reiterate my plea to Steve Jobs: For the love of Jehovah why is there not an e-reader on the iPhone? IT'S A NO BRAINER! I don't even care if Apple develops some proprietary format (iBook?) that won't work on any other device (I'm used to FairPlay), just sell it on iTunes and make it simple to sync with the iPhone. I would buy books left, right and center if Apple would do this. I love reading but I hate paper books. They are heavy, expensive, and they don't have a backlight. Heck, they waste trees, use the environmental wacko argument, I don't care. Please Apple. Do this one thing for me and everyone else who would like to see electronic books succeed. Change the publishing world just like you changed the music world. It's your destiny.

FireWire: The greatest thing since plastic plumbing

I just hooked up my new camcorder to my MacMini. It was so simple, I had to pinch myself. It was so easy my Dad could do it: 1. Plug in 6-pin to 4-pin Firewire cable into Mac and camcorder. 2. Put camcorder in Player mode. 3. Launch iMovie. It was this utter simplicity that led me to buy a Mac. Now I'm living the dream. My fir st documentary, Quest for the Six-Pack is now starting. The subject matter will my large gut, aka "Cornelius", as he turns from a disgusting 15 pound spare tire into a rock hard structure. This task will not be easy, but I'm determined to gut it out.

iPhone firmware update?

There was supposed to be an update today for the iPhone but it's not
available yet. Nothing major is supposed to be released in this one,
just some language packs and bug fixes. Still, I want to get it and
see if it changes anything. I'll report back tomorrow.

Unretiring from glowstrining

Well I finally got a camcorder the other day, so I can finally do all of the documentary projects that I've been meaning to do. One other thing I can do now is put some new glowstring videos up on YouTube. I'll keep you posted.

Local hero (my brother) gets welcomed home by VFW
